Wednesday, February 18th, 2009

Last week, SXSW announced that it was partnering with Fantastic Fest to bring film-festival goers an incredible lineup of midnight screenings.

Today, they announced that lineup, and they sure did deliver.  The program includes four international premieres and both a North American and US premiere.  They're good...really good.  Check out the lineup here, and let me know what you think!

SXSW Announces Schedule

It's offical.  SXSW has announced it's Film Festival Schedule.  I'll be spending most of my time at the Auditorium Shores checking out some great music acts...but I'm hoping to catch a few premieres as well.

Anything that you think is a must see?  Let me know!

SXSW Feature: Let’s Get Down to Brass Tacks

Wednesday, February 11th, 2009

Today I'm bring you another short film reviewed at last year's SXSW Film Festival. Writtten, directed, and produced by Aaron Katz, "Let's Get Down to Brass Tacks" also showcases Katz in the only role.

This particular film flew under the radar last year, though probably for the best as it's the kind of film that should be seen without the influence of puffed-up expectations. Set in a Days Inn in Mystic, Connecticut, "Let's Get Down to Brass Tacks" films Katz eating noodles, watching TV, taking a bath, making a phone call. The twelve minute short is definitely slight, but it's also surprizingly satisfying.

So without further ado, and in avoidance of those puffed-up expectations, I bring you "Let's Get Down to Brass Tacks." Enjoy.

SXSW Feature: I Slammed My D*ck in the Drawer

Tuesday, February 10th, 2009

The SXSW Film Showcase is now only a mere 30 days away, so in preperation I'll be bringing you some of my favorite films screened at last year's festival.

Today, I'm starting off with a short film directed, writen, produced, and starred in by Jeffrey Brown. "I Slammed My D*ck In the Drawer" is the harrowing tale of a yound man, a drawer, and his dick.

(And on a side note, I've had a chance to speak with Jeffrey a few times; he's not only incredibly funny, but also really freaking cool.)

So enjoy folks!

SXSW Partners with Fantastic Fest

Monday, February 9th, 2009

This year, SXSW is partnering with Fantastic Fest.  For those of you who are unfamiliar Fantastic Fest it's a premiere genre film festival here in the U.S.  They specialize in horror, fantasy, sci-fi, and action films....pretty fantastic stuff.

SXSW has announced that it will be bringing us "SXSW Presents: Fantastic Fest @ Midnight."  In addition to the Midnighters already announced, they will also be screening six new premieres...all exclusive to SXSW.

I don't know about you, but I'm excited...who doesn't love a midnight showing?
